Nokia 8.1 is receiving a new software update that brings January 2021 security patch. Currently, it is hitting Romanian users of Nokia 8.1 with an update size of about 25MB.
Security patch updates are important for smartphones as it fixes different level of exploits and enhances the overall security of devices. The update does not bring any UI changes so, you will not see any changes while using your device.
If you have not received the update yet, try checking manually by navigating to Settings -> Software update and then tap on Download and install button. Users outside of Romania change VPN location to Romania and then check for update. The VPN trick works in some cases, but not guaranteed to work every time.
